Chin is a GP in Cheltenham with a passion for primary care dermatology, and dermoscopy in particular. She has been teaching dermoscopy since 2012, for the Cardiff dermoscopy course, Primary Care Dermatology Society and independently for practices and CCGs across the UK.

  • If someone has had no dermoscopy education they need to start with the first session and ideally attend all three
  • If have had some education then they are free to join any session

Part 1 - Dermoscopy for beginners:  Thursday 04.09.2025

The objectives of Part 1 are to:

  • be able to know how to use a dermatoscope, and understand the different types of dermoscopy
  • be able to recognise common benign lesions such as angiomas, seborrheic keratoses and dermatofibromas with confidence
  • be able to state the role of dermoscopy in primary care

This is a half day online interactive course with plenty of opportunity to practice assessing lesions and covers

  • how dermoscopy works and practical tips, including how to get good dermoscopy photos and troubleshooting tips
  • a practical demonstration of the commonly used scopes. This includes how to turn it on, focus it, charge it, clean it etc.
  • interpretation of dermoscopic structures in benign lesions (and how this always needs to be taken in clinical context)
    • Seborrhoeic keratosis
    • Angiomas
    • Warts
    • Dermatofibromas
    • Sebaceous hyperplasia
    • Comedones
  • interpretation of dermoscopic structures (and how this always needs to be taken in clinical context)
    • Basal Cell Carcinomas (BCCs)
    • Melanomas
  • how to put it all together into a simple algorithm
  • other uses of dermoscopy in primary care
