BNSSG Training Hub

Training Hubs and neighbourhood working

Neighbourhood health brings services, professionals and communities together around the needs of local people, helping them to live healthier, more independent lives and receive more joined-up care closer to home.

It brings together primary care, community health services, social care and wider partners to work more collaboratively around the needs of local communities. This approach supports three key NHS shifts: hospital to community, treatment to prevention, and analogue to digital.

Effective neighbourhood working also relies on having the right workforce, skills, leadership, learning and development in place. Building workforce capability, supporting multidisciplinary teams and creating shared learning opportunities are key enablers of successful neighbourhood health models.

Our role in neighbourhoods

The BNSSG Primary Care Training Hub is a workforce, education, learning and organisational development partner for neighbourhoods.

We support the workforce foundations needed for neighbourhood working, helping teams develop the right people, skills, learning environments and ways of working for integrated, community-based care now and in the future.

Partnership, collaboration and coordination

We represent primary care workforce development needs in wider neighbourhood discussions, helping to ensure education, training and development are reflected in emerging models of care. We bring partners together around shared priorities, helping to coordinate activity, reduce duplication and develop collaborative workforce solutions.

Workforce transformation and innovation

We support the workforce to adapt to new models of care and work effectively as multidisciplinary neighbourhood teams. This includes helping teams understand and develop new and evolving roles, build capability for integrated working, and use evidence, data and shared learning to enable innovation, improvement and new ways of working.

Equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging

We embed equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging across workforce education, learning and development. We work to widen participation, reduce barriers and create equitable and accessible development opportunities for a diverse and inclusive neighbourhood workforce that reflects and responds to the communities it serves

Learning quality and environment

We help organisations create high-quality environments for learning and development through educational governance, quality assurance, learner support, and supervisor and educator development. This strengthens the quality of education and supervision across neighbourhood settings and helps teams create a positive experience for learners.

Expanding placement capacity

We work with practices, PCNs, education providers and system partners to increase the range and capacity of high-quality placements across primary care and neighbourhood settings. By strengthening placement infrastructure and creating opportunities for learners to experience different roles and services, we help build the future neighbourhood workforce.

Multi-professional education and training

We provide and connect people with high-quality education, training and career development opportunities across clinical and non-clinical roles. Shared and multi-professional learning helps colleagues build skills, knowledge and confidence, understand different roles, strengthen relationships and work more effectively across professional and organisational boundaries.

Workforce planning and intelligence

We support practices and PCNs to understand their current workforce, anticipate future needs and identify skills and capability gaps. Using workforce data, modelling and local insight, we help inform workforce development priorities and assist practices and PCNs with planning for emerging models of care, neighbourhood working and population health needs.

Whether you’re exploring neighbourhood working, developing your workforce, strengthening leadership, planning for future workforce needs or creating new learning opportunities, we can help.
