Practice & PCN Management Development (PPMD)

The Practice & PCN Management Development (PPMD) Programme is a pan-BNSSG initiative, designed to strengthen the capability, confidence and connectivity of the general practice and PCN management workforce.

Developed through a strong partnership between the BNSSG Training Hub, One Care, Avon LMC (ALMC), and the Institute of General Practice Management (IGPM), the programme reflects a shared commitment to supporting managers at every stage of their career.

What is PPMD?

PPMD is a collaborative, inclusive programme that provides development opportunities, peer support and a growing community of practice for all non-clinical management roles across general practice and PCNs.

  • Collaborative by design – co-developed and delivered with key partners and management representatives to ensure it meets real system needs and reduces duplication through shared expertise.
  • Inclusive and accessible – open to all types of management roles across practices and PCNs, including aspiring, new and experienced managers.
  • Responsive to workforce needs – informed by stakeholder feedback and insights to ensure relevant, practical and flexible support.

What does the programme aim to achieve?

The programme focuses on strengthening both individuals and the wider system by:

  • Building leadership and management capability across general practice and PCNs.
  • Supporting workforce resilience and wellbeing, helping managers to navigate increasing complexity and workload pressures.
  • Creating stronger peer networks and connections, reducing isolation and fostering collaboration across BNSSG.
  • Contributing to long-term workforce sustainability and retention within general practice.

Quarterly PPMD Events

The programme delivers regular pan-BNSSG PPMD events – including an annual conference – bringing together management colleagues from across the system and supporting a flexible and blended approach to development.

These events provide:

  • Opportunities for shared learning and development.
  • Space for peer networking and collaboration.
  • Access to practical, relevant content aligned to operational and leadership challenges.
  • A consistent platform for ongoing engagement and community building.
