NHS England Educator Workforce Strategy

The aim of the Educator Workforce Strategy is to set out actions that will lead to sufficient capacity and quality of educators to allow the growth in healthcare workforce that is needed to deliver care, now and in the future.

“Educator” is used inclusively to refer to all roles involved in healthcare education and training, across settings and professions.

Purpose of the Strategy:

  • Impact of COVID-19 on education delivery

Strategic Priorities:

  • Integrated Planning – Embed educators in workforce/service planning
  • Protected Time – Ensure time and resources for education
  • Career Pathways – Develop structured educator career routes
  • Wellbeing & Development – Support educator health and growth
  • Quality Standards – Define consistent educator role expectations
  • EDI Focus – Promote inclusive and equitable education
  • Innovation – Embrace digital and flexible learning models
